How is everyone doing? Here at The James Company, as we manage the best we can amidst this pandemic, we find ourselves reflecting on those values that are important to us. Radical Amazement is one of those values. We take to heart the wisdom of living every day with a sense of amazement…. for the beauty of life and nature that surrounds us… for the unconditional love of family and friends that embrace us.
The words of Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel ring true…
“Our goal should be to live life in radical amazement,
[to] get up in the morning and look at the world in a way that takes nothing for granted.
Everything is phenomenal;
Everything is incredible;
Never treat life casually.
To be spiritual is to be amazed.”
The following words of Henri Nouwen remind us that to be Amazed, we need to be Still:
“Maybe I have been living much too fast, too restlessly, too feverishly, forgetting to pay attention to what is happening here and now, right under my nose. Just as a whole world of beauty can be discovered in one flower, so the great grace of God can be tasted in one small moment. Just as no great travels are necessary to see the beauty of creation, so no great ecstasies are needed to discover the love of God. But you have to be still and wait so that you can realize that God is not in the earthquake, the storm, or the lightning, but in the gentle breeze with which he touches your back.”
In the weeks ahead, we wish you all of moments of stillness… and radical amazement!
